Volunteering with Airdrie and District Hospice Society

The Airdrie & District Hospice Society is entirely operated by volunteers, including the Board of Directors, Special Event Volunteers, and Palliative Companions.

Board members attend monthly board meetings and would be expected to be available approximately 3 hours a month.

Special Event Volunteers and Palliative Companions would be needed on a more flexible basis with no set hour requirement.

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

We currently have the following volunteer opportunities available:

Board Members

Membership in our Board of Directors is a meaningful way to commit your talents and energy to furthering the vision and mission of ADHS.

The primary responsibility of board directors is to participate in the development of policy and major decision making at board meetings held monthly. Other key responsibilities are to be active on an ongoing basis in at least one committee of the board, and to ensure that ADHS has the resources that it needs to fulfill its mission.

If you are interested in pursuing a Board position with us, please contact us.

Palliative Care Companions

Specially trained volunteers who can provide a few hours of respite so caregivers can tend to their own needs, such as going shopping or attending an appointment (volunteers cannot provide medical care, but they can sit with a person and keep them company). Read the full role description here.

Special Events Volunteers

These Volunteers provide logistical and administrative leadership and assistance for planning the Airdrie and District Hospice Society Special Events: Humour for Hospice, Hike for Hospice and our Tree of Hope. Learn more.

How much do Volunteers make a difference??

The impact of volunteerism affects everyone! Volunteers allow for people to remain in their homes longer, raise awareness of what palliative and hospice care is, as well as helping hospices and hospice societies remain open.
